Great Resource on the History of Communism

Vladimir Putin's paternal grandfather, Spiridon Ivanovich Putin, was the personal live-at-home cook for Lenin and Stalin. Daily Wire's "Empire of Terror", the case against communism is Bill Whittle's stellar effort. Social proof is a thing. Great interview with Whittle.

Saturday Snippets 6 April 2024

Like all things, drone racing is the cutting edge of pressing the technology into the future, not government. It's these small and arcane subculture that drive innovation. Did I say not government? The Drone Racing League with tens of thousands of members. The market delivers. Mike Rowe does drones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reUd7kWU78A *** How the US Navy spends your money. And you thought the idea of the Soviet political commissar, zampolit, was dead? CDR Salamander has been doing Diversity Thursday for years; a rich gold mine of government perfidy, incompetence and rake-stomping....

War is the Health, Wealth and Death of the State

“War is the health of the state. The American intellectuals, in their preoccupation with reality, seem to have forgotten that the real enemy is War rather than imperial Germany. There is work to be done to prevent this war of ours from passing into popular mythology as a holy crusade. What shall we do with leaders who tell us that we go to war in moral spotlessness or who make “democracy” synonymous with a republican form of government?” - Randolph Bourne Martin van Creveld is one of the most interesting warfare thinkers in the last half century and tends to provide explanations that in...

Episode 039: CG Excursion: Stoicism: Who Dares Leads

Episode Notes I am reusing a previous episode I used in the now moribund Stoicism podcast I started, The Dash, which I ran out of steam on. In the interest of preserving what I thought was a worthy explication of aspects of Stoicism. I present this as an excursion. Applying Stoic values and discipline to the vocation and avocations we practice in life may be the hardest part outside of making a Stoic life a lived lifestyle. I find the management industry is a giant cargo cult that publishes books whose pages number in the hundreds but could simply be a page or two. Aside from Stoicism, the...

NATO Expansion Will Not Go Unpunished

The Russians have been invaded by the West four times [1812, 1914, 1918, 1941] in the last 212 years. Of course, technically, the precursor for 1918-20 was the German injection of the Bolshevik bacillus in the person of Vladimir Lenin into the Russian body politic in 1917 on the sealed train from Switzerland. Red-lines are a real thing. The present CIA director, William J. Burns, inferred this in 2008 in his capacity as US Ambassador to Russia. He knew better then but apparently doesn't know better now. “NYET MEANS NYET: RUSSIA’S NATO ENLARGEMENT REDLINES.” "Ukraine and Georgia's NATO...

Another Government Bureaucracy That Can’t Do Their Job: Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency

The 150 million dollar Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) was created to replace the scandal plagued Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC). More than 81,000 Americans remain missing from WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the Gulf Wars/other conflicts. Before quitting after less than a year on the job, the “new director” simply reassigned the previous JPAC Scientific Director to be in charge of “partnering with private groups”.  What this “partnering” turned out to be was the giving away of millions of taxpayer dollars in annual contracts to “non-profits to do...

The Eternal Panopticon: The State as Predator

Lizard Farmer did an excellent synopsis of how the state stalks its prey. The observations are older but still germane. If London had this technology in 1770, America would not have been born and Paul Revere, the Committees of Correspondence and his colleagues would have been renditioned to black sites. “Make no mistake that over the last decade plus the DoD, DoJ, DHS, NSA, and CIA have definitely learned their lessons.  From shortly after 9/11 when the new lessons of counter-insurgency still lay ahead to the recent (last few years) capture and killing of Al Qaeda’s top officers the concepts...

Episode 038 “Moral Injury: The Invisible Warrior Marks”

Episode Notes “As beasts are beneath human restraints, gods are above them... It would be foolish and untruthful to deny the appeal of exalted, godlike intoxication....We have seen the paradox that these godlike exalted moments often correspond to times when the men who have survived them say that they have acted like beasts....Above all, a sense of merely human virtue, a sense of being valued and of valuing anything seems to have fled their lives....However, all of our virtues come from not being gods. Generosity is meaningless to a god, who never suffers shortage or want. Courage is...

Last Rights: The Death of American Liberty

Last Rights: The Death of American Liberty

Americans today have “freedom” to be fleeced, groped, injected, harassed, surveilled, vilified, disarmed, beaten, detained, and maybe shot by federal agents. From hapless homeowners hit by SWAT raids to pandemic lockdowns pointlessly paralyzing lives, government...
