As we recover from the effects of Hurricane Harvey, it is absolutely inspiring to see the outpouring of support and prayers for the victims. As the Young Americans for Liberty Texas State Chair and University of Houston YAL Chapter President, I could not be more proud of my community here in Houston, Texas as we pulled together to help each other in response to the horrific, ongoing storm.
But it is not just Texas, liberty leaders from across the country are helping out with the effort through The Liberty Coalition for Disaster Relief.
Fellow YAL Texas State Chair Christian Ehlming, YAL Arkansas State Chair Brian Hale, and YAL Chapter Officer at Houston Baptist University Jacky Ovalle along with other YAL members, reached out to us to support our efforts, deliver supplies, and join us on the ground in Houston.
These funds and supplies are helping displaced families in need as we begin to rebuild. Looking forward, we are currently working with YAL Central Regional Director Brittany Wilson to host YAL’s Choose Charity activism events across the Central region to continue to deliver much needed supplies to Texas. YAL offers the Choose Charity activism kit each semester to empower chapters to educate students on the power of giving voluntarily.
The YAL family is stepping up to help my community here in Houston and all of the affected areas. It’s truly an honor to be part of an amazing network that answers the call when others are in need.
That’s what YAL is all about: promoting freedom for all and developing leaders and members who rise up to help neighbors in their time of need. Hurricane Harvey has been a horrific scene for many Americans, but the response from liberty activists across the country shows me that we still are a virtuous people that will help others when called upon.
Keep us in your thoughts and prayers are we continue to rebuild here in Texas.
Writing from Houston and appreciative of your support,
Michael Anderson
