Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attempted to spin the ethnic cleansing of Gaza as an act of humanitarianism. The Israeli leader said he was working with other countries to take in Palestinian refugees fleeing his war.
In an interview with i24 News, Netanyahu was asked, “Do you believe we will eventually see emigration from Gaza?” He replied, “I don’t understand this question at all. Why does Gaza have to be a closed place? In other war zones, millions left. Suddenly, they are determining that here in Gaza, the civilians should be imprisoned.”
The PM continued, “First of all, inside Gaza, we are not pushing them out either, but we are allowing them to leave.”
Israel currently has Gaza under a complete siege, and even prevents Palestinians from entering the Mediterranean Sea. Those who attempt to do so, or try to pass through the Israeli buffer zone that surrounds Gaza, are killed by the IDF.
While Netanyahu absurdly presents Israel as a passive actor in its own war, many humanitarian aid agencies have blamed Tel Aviv for intentionally creating a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Additionally, the Israeli PM recently ordered the IDF to expand military operations in Gaza, with a goal of occupying the entire Strip.
When asked why Palestinians are not exiting Gaza at a faster rate, Netanyahu explained, “You need receiving countries. We are talking with several countries. I can’t detail that here.”
The Associated Press reported on Tuesday that Netanyahu’s government was in talks with South Sudan about moving the Palestinians to the impoverished African nation.
