A senior advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is giving Hamas 60 days to disarm. Hamas has stated that it will only disarm as part of the process of the creation of an independent Palestine.

Cabinet Secretary Yossi Fuchs said Monday that Israel was giving Hamas 60 days to disarm out of respect for a request made by President Donald Trump. Trump brokered a ceasefire and hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas that was meant to lead to the permanent end to the conflict.

Hamas signed on to the deal, hoping that Trump would force Israel to comply with the pact. However, the President has allowed Israel to attack Gaza nearly every day. Israel has violated the truce over 1,000 times, killing at least 600 Palestinians.

Additionally, Trump has changed the demands of Hamas to disarm immediately. The President has claimed that Arab countries are willing to send troops to Gaza to disarm. Fuchs explained that the “IDF will complete the mission.”

Netanyahu’s advisor said he expects the process of disarming Hamas to be completed by the Israeli elections in October.

Following the October 7 attack, Israel unleashed a ruthless war against Gaza, claiming the goal was to eliminate Hamas. Despite claims to be targeting the military, most of the dead are civilians, and tens of thousands of children have been killed.

Additionally, Israel has intentionally targeted and destroyed key civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, universities, mosques, and water filtration centers. Meanwhile, Hamas still has tens of thousands of men in its military.
