Slovakia and Hungary received Russian oil via Ukraine. Kiev says the pipeline was damaged by a Russian attack. Bratislava and Budapest say Kiev has the ability to restart oil flows but is refusing to do so.
Last week, Hungary announced it was halting diesel fuel shipments to Ukraine. “Today we decided to suspend diesel fuel deliveries to Ukraine. Shipments will not resume until oil transit toward Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline is restored,” Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó wrote on X Wednesday.
Fico and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán decided to cut energy supplies to Ukraine after meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. At a press conference with Orbán, Rubio said the Hungarian leader has the support of President Donald Trump.
Fico and Orbán are both strong advocates of ending the war in Ukraine and improving the relationship with Russia.
