The Omani Foreign Minister said that significant progress was made during talks between the US and Iran on Thursday.
“We have finished the day after significant progress in the negotiation between the United States and Iran,” Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi wrote on X. “We will resume soon after consultation in the respective capitals. Discussions on a technical level will take place next week in Vienna. I am grateful to all concerned for their efforts: the negotiators, the IAEA, and our hosts the Swiss government.”

A senior US official told Axios the talks were “positive.” The talks were the third round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran this year. Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are leading the US delegation.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said “good progress” was made during the discussions, and the two sides were “close” to an agreement on some issues.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Washington is demanding that Iran dismantle three nuclear sites, eliminate its enrichment program, and give its stockpile of enriched uranium to the US. The US is offering minimal sanctions relief if Iran agrees to the deal.
Tehran says it is willing to dilute its stockpile of 60% enriched uranium, cap the level of enrichment, and allow inspections to ensure it complies with the agreement. Following Thursday’s talks, an Iranian official suggested Tehran’s position is unchanged.
“Enrichment will continue in accordance with needs, and nothing will leave Iran; other options, including dilution, remain on the table. Iran seeks the lifting of sanctions,” Elyas Hazrati, head of the Iranian government’s Information Council, said.
President Donald Trump has threatened to attack Iran if Tehran refuses to comply with Washington’s demands.
