US Central Command (CENTCOM) has prepared battle plans for a round of strikes against Iran.
Axios spoke with three people familiar with the Department of War’s planning to resume strikes against Iran. According to the sources CENTCOM, the US military command responsible for the Middle East, has prepared a plan for a “short and powerful” wave of strikes.
The US and Iran have been in an uneasy ceasefire for three weeks as the two sides attempted to negotiate an end to the conflict. Tehran has said that if Washington breaks the ceasefire, Iranian officials will not return to the negotiating table.
The White House views the potential strikes as a method to pressure Tehran to comply with President Donald Trump’s demands. The sources told Axios that the President has not authorized any new attacks on Iran.
In recent weeks, Trump has threatened to destroy the Iranian civilization and destroy the country’s civilian infrastructure.
Trump believes the blockade on Iranian ports has been extremely effective and put the government in Tehran on the brink of collapse. “The blockade is somewhat more effective than the bombing. They are choking like a stuffed pig. And it is going to be worse for them. They can’t have a nuclear weapon,” Trump told Axios.
Before the US and Israel attacked Iran earlier this year, Tehran did not have a nuclear weapons program and had not even started to rebuild the facilities destroyed during Operation Midnight Hammer last June.
