Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called for Tel Aviv to “think outside the box” to conquer Lebanon. He suggested that the IDF could round up Lebanese women and children and throw them in “terrorist prisons.”
“Let’s start thinking outside the box about Hezbollah,” Ben Gvir said on Tuesday. “Conquering territory and killing many terrorists, but also detaining their women and youth and taking them to terrorist prisons. That’s what hurts them the most.”
Ben Gvir controls Israel’s prison systems. Israeli media outlets and international human rights agencies have reported that detainees in prisons face systematic torture and abuse. Ben Gvir has touted the horrific conditions Palestinians face in his prisons.
Israel has rounded up over 1,000 Palestinians over the past two and a half years. Ben Gvir has frequently complained that there is an overcrowding issue in Israeli prisons. He has suggested executing detainees to make room for new prisoners.
Israel is attempting to seize a large swath of Lebanon. The IDF is facing stiff resistance from Hezbollah, which is able to strike Israel with missiles and drones.
Additionally, Iran says that any agreement to end the wider war in the Middle East must include an end to the Israeli attacks on Lebanon. Over the weekend, Tel Aviv bombed Beirut, provoking Iran to fire missiles at Israel.
