Ceasefire Nears Collapse as Iran Threatens Strikes on Northern Israel

Iran is threatening that it will strike northern Israel if Tel Aviv moves forward with planned strikes in Beirut.

On Sunday, Israel called for residents of southern neighborhoods in Beirut to evacuate the city before the IDF started to bomb. The Iranian military responded by threatening to strike northern Israel if it attacked the Lebanese capital.

The IRGC said it would open “new fronts” and that Tehran “cannot tolerate” repeated Israeli violations of the ceasefire.

In early April, the US and Iran agreed to a ceasefire brokered by Pakistan. While the agreement called for all warring parties to halt fighting, Israel escalated its war against Lebanon. Tel Aviv has declared southern Lebanon an Israeli security zone and ordered civilians to evacuate. On Sunday, Israel said its forces had captured Lebanese territory north of the Latani River.

Tehran also said it was cutting off all talks with Washington and was fully closing the Strait of Hormuz because the US has not forced Israel to comply with the ceasefire.

Additionally, tensions are flaring between the US and Iran. On Saturday, Central Command reported attacking an Iranian civilian ship attempting to break the blockade. Iran responded with missile strikes on a US base in Kuwait. CENTCOM claims it successfully intercepted the missiles.

Monday, the Pentagon said that the US conducted strikes against Iranian radars and drone facilities over the weekend.
