During the ceasefire, Iran has been able to dig out sites tied to its missile program that were bombed by the US during the first five weeks of the war.
CNN reports reviewing satellite imagery that shows Tehran used simple construction equipment to dig out several missile launchers and other tunnels tied to its missile program. The review found Iran was able to clear the entrance to 50 of 69 tunnels and 18 missile production sites.
The analysis by CNN reflects several leaked intelligence reports over the past month. According to government sources, the intelligence community estimates Iran has over 75% of its missile launchers available, and it has already resumed production of drones.
The White House has claimed that Iran was nearly militarily defeated before the two sides agreed to a ceasefire in April. President Donald Trump has claimed that the US could destroy Iran’s remaking capabilities in a day.
After starting the war against Iran, Trump said eliminating Tehran’s missile program was one of his goals.
Current discussion to end the war centers on sanctions relief for Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, and a ceasefire in Lebanon. With Iran’s missile program mostly intact and Tehran already rebuilding its missile sites, Trump is unlikely to achieve that goal.
