The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) said it concluded its operations in the Strip. For months, the GHF was the exclusive distributor of food aid in Gaza. During that period, Palestinians starved to death, and thousands of people were murdered attempting to reach aid distribution points.

“As we conclude our emergency operations, we leave behind a proven model for how adaptability, local partnership, and accountability can redefine what effective humanitarian aid looks like in conflict zones,” a statement posted on GHF’s X account said. It also touted its role in distributing food.

However, aid agencies, Palestinians, and whistleblowers were highly critical of the GHF’s aid operations in the Strip. According to Anthony Aguilar, a retired Green Beret who served in the US Army for 25 years and worked for the GHF, “The sites were designed to lure, bait, aid, and kill.”

“An analysis of MSF medical data, patient testimonies, and firsthand medical witnessing at the two clinics point to both targeted and indiscriminate violence by Israeli forces and private American contractors against starved Palestinians at food distribution sites run by the so-called (GHF),” Doctors Without Borders explained in August. “These are sites of orchestrated killing and dehumanization.”

The GHF was the only aid agency allowed to distribute food in Gaza from May until the ceasefire in October. Dozens of Palestinians starved to death during this period. The US provided tens of millions of dollars to the GHF for its operations in Gaza.

The aid sites were too remote for many Palestinians, meaning many families were unable to obtain food. The four distribution points were also located far from population centres, meaning Palestinians had to walk through combat zones to obtain food.
