An official with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said ending the war requires the US to halt its attacks and threats, unfreeze Iranian assets, force Israel to withdraw from Lebanon, end the blockade of Yemen, and refrain from interfering with Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.

IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi told state media on Wednesday that to end the war, the US must “refrain from renewed threats, withdraw the Israeli regime’s army from Lebanon, end the blockade of Yemen, release $24 billion in Iran’s frozen assets and refrain from any interference in the country’s nuclear and missile capabilities.”

Iran is also seeking US acceptance of a new framework for managing shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran and Oman have been negotiating protocols that would give Tehran greater authority over vessels transiting the waterway and allow fees to be charged for maritime services.

Washington and Tehran signed a Memorandum of Understanding on June 17 that included several concessions sought by Iran, but the agreement quickly unraveled. Trump declared the deal “over” in July, and Iran subsequently suspended its participation. Tehran has continued to demand that Washington return to the framework of the June agreement.

Additionally, Washington has not attempted to force Israel to end its occupation of Lebanon or Saudi Arabia to end the war against Yemen. Hezbollah and Ansar Allah are allies of Tehran that are part of the Axis of Resistance. 

The US is instead ramping up economic pressure on Iran. The Trump administration has maintained its blockade of Iranian ports and imposed additional sanctions, betting that mounting economic pressure will eventually force Tehran to make concessions.
