Israel Continues to Kill Palestinians as Hamas Returns Bodies of Hostages

Israel has continued to violate the ceasefire daily with strikes on Gaza that have killed hundreds. Meanwhile, Hamas is upholding its commitment to return the bodies of the captives.

On Sunday, the Gaza Health Ministry reported one Palestinian was killed and five were injured by Israeli ceasefire violations over the past 24 hours. Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from central Gaza, said an Israeli drone strike hit civilians in Khan Younis, and artillery continues to pound Gaza City.

About a month ago, Israel and Hamas agreed to a hostage exchange and ceasefire. While Hamas has largely upheld its commitments to the deal, Tel Aviv has broken most of its commitments.

Israel has bombed Gaza daily, killing over 200 Palestinians. Additionally, Tel Aviv has restricted aid deliveries to the Strip to far fewer than the 600 trucks per day mandated by the agreement.

Hamas released all the living Israeli captives at the start of the ceasefire. The Palestinian group has released the bodies of 23 of the 28 deceased hostages held by Hamas. On Sunday, the group released the body of Hadar Goldin, an Israeli soldier killed in 2014.

Israel also released about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, most of whom were in administrative detention and not convicted of any crime. Tel Aviv is working to refill its jails. Palestinian Prisoners’ Society reports over 440 Palestinians, including 33 children, were arrested by Israel in October.

Additionally, the Israeli Knesset approved the first reading of legislation that will formalize the annexation of the West Bank.
