Israel Replicates Gaza Strategy By Creating ‘Yellow Line’ in Southern Lebanon

A senior Israeli official said the IDF has established a “yellow line” dividing southern Lebanon. In Gaza, the IDF kills Palestinians who cross the “yellow line.”

The senior Israeli official told reporters on Saturday, “The ‘Yellow Line’ model implemented in Gaza will be replicated in Lebanon; the IDF [Israeli military] has already established a ‘Yellow Line’ and its forces are currently working towards it.”

In October, Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire. Under the deal, Gaza was divided by a “yellow line” that was meant to act as a temporary border between the IDF and Palestinians. The IDF-controlled partition of Gaza is slightly over half of the Strip. The IDF is working to destroy the Palestinian infrastructure on its side of the yellow line, and Palestinians who have approached the yellow line have been killed.

Under the agreement, the IDF was scheduled to withdraw from the yellow line and allow Palestinians to control most of the Strip. However, Israel has built fortified positions along the yellow line, suggesting that the IDF does not intend to withdraw from its current positions. Additionally, Israel has attacked Gaza throughout the truce, killing over 700 people.

Israel is already replicating its Gaza policy in Lebanon. On Sunday, Haaretz reported that Israeli military commanders said they were engaged in the systematic destruction of Lebanese homes.

The IDF’s destruction of homes has continued after Lebanon and  Israel agreed to a ceasefire. Hezbollah said it views the destruction of homes as a violation of the truce. “A ceasefire means a complete cessation of all hostilities”, the group said. “Because we do not trust this enemy, the resistance fighters will remain in the field, ready to respond to any violations of the aggression. A ceasefire cannot be unilateral; it must be mutual.”

Notably, the IDF yellow line in Lebanon extends into the Eastern Mediterranean. Under the IDF map, the entire Qana oil field now falls under Israeli control.
