Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene issued a stern rebuke of Israel in a post on X. In another post, she referred to the Israeli military operations in Gaza as a genocide.
“I can unequivocally say that what happened to innocent people in Israel on Oct 7th was horrific,” she wrote. “Just as I can unequivocally say that what has been happening to innocent people and children in Gaza is horrific. This war and humanitarian crisis must end!”
I can unequivocally say that what happened to innocent people in Israel on Oct 7th was horrific.
Just as I can unequivocally say that what has been happening to innocent people and children in Gaza is horrific.
This war and humanitarian crisis must end!

The statement from Greene is one of the strongest criticisms of Israel from an elected American official, and she is one of the only Republicans to issue any rebukes of Tel Aviv’s brutal onslaught in Gaza.
In another post, she referred to Israel’s policy in Gaza as genocide. “It’s the most truthful and easiest thing to say that Oct 7th in Israel was horrific and all hostages must be returned, but so is the genocide, humanitarian crisis, and starvation happening in Gaza,” she wrote.
I remember the first time I met Randy Fine when he was a candidate before he barely won Florida’s deep red 6th district seat, as we were being told he might actually lose the seat because the strong Trump district couldn’t relate to him and didn’t like him.

Greene went on to argue for cutting US aid to Middle Eastern nations. “I tried to cut funding to Israel, Jordan, and other countries as well as cut needless foreign aid.” Her post continued, “All my amendments failed because Congress refuses to stop their addiction to America’s last insane spending.”
The Congresswoman reposted a video of her floor speech calling for cutting $500 million in military aid to Israel. “Israel is a nuclear-armed nation. They can defend themselves. They have universal healthcare and subsidized college. Meanwhile, Americans are $37 trillion in debt,” she said.
Greene noted that Washington was funding 15-20% of Tel Aviv’s military budget, and the US used a significant number of its missile interceptors defending Israel from Iranian retaliatory attacks.
The US has also provided billions of dollars in additional military aid after October 7, 2023. According to Israeli media, the US has financed roughly 70% of Israel’s war-related military spending since then.
Greene’s amendment to the 2026 NDAA to cut the aid to Israel only received six votes in the House. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) notably voted against cutting the military assistance to Tel Aviv.
“Marjorie Taylor Greene’s amendment does nothing to cut off offensive aid to Israel nor end the flow of US munitions being used in Gaza. Of course I voted against it,” AOC wrote on X. “What it does do is cut off defensive Iron Dome capacities while allowing the actual bombs killing Palestinians to continue. I have long stated that I do not believe that adding to the death count of innocent victims to this war is constructive to its end.”
However, former State Department official Annelle Sheline explained that sending Israel “defensive weapons” leads to more civilian casualties. She wrote at Responsible Statecraft:
AOC’s post highlighted a flawed logic that many American politicians continue to deploy: the idea that it is both moral and possible to distinguish between defensive and offensive weapons.
Yet by boosting …Israel’s ability to “defend” themselves, American politicians — from a centrist like Biden to an ostensible progressive like AOC — are enabling the aggressive behavior that they allegedly wish to curtail.
Indeed, if Israelis had to deal with a tiny fraction of the horrors that their military has meted out against Palestinians in Gaza, they would have insisted that their government agree to a ceasefire months and months ago. Instead, they are protected from the consequences of their military’s heinous violence.
