According to a report, President Donald Trump’s key Middle East policies are now conflicting with one another.

Ynet reports speaking with three officials who said that talks with Hamas to bring the conflict in Gaza to an end were halted when the Iran war began last week and have not resumed. In October, Tel Aviv and Hamas signed an agreement that created the Board of Peace to enforce the ceasefire and rebuild Gaza.

However, the peace process has been stifled by Washington and Tel Aviv demanding that Hamas give up its weapons before Israel attacks the Strip. While there was a declared truce in Gaza over the past five months, Israel has violated the ceasefire thousands of times, killing hundreds of Palestinians. Trump has endorsed Israeli strikes on the Strip despite his role as guarantor of the ceasefire.

The White House denied that the talks regarding Gaza have come to a halt. A Palestinian official described the talks as frozen.

Even if talks resume, the Board of Peace could lose the support of Gulf Arab states. Zaha Hassan of the Washington-based Carnegie Endowment for International Peace said those countries may be asking whether this is really money well spent now that they are dodging rocket fire.”

Additionally, Gulf Arab countries have complained about a lack of American air defense support to shoot down incoming Iranian drones and missiles. Those countries may be less inclined to donate billions of dollars to Trump’s Board of Peace if they feel abandoned by Washington in their time of need.

Israel has continued to strike Gaza even as it is engaged in major bombing operations against Iran and Lebanon.
