Trump: I’m Not Trying to Force Iran to the Bargaining Table

President Donald Trump says he is not interested in negotiating an end to the war against Iran.

“I’m not trying to force Iran to the bargaining table, as ABC Fake News reported. I couldn’t care less if they sign a worthless, to them, agreement,” the President wrote on Truth Social Tuesday. “I like our position now much better, with almost total control of the Hormuz Strait, and their economy totally collapsing. They are just playing out the inevitable. When are the Iranian people going to rise up and fight?”

While Trump claims the US is not trying to force Tehran into negotiations with the US, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that is the purpose of the economic war against Iran. On Monday, he said the Iranian economy would collapse in “weeks or months” unless “the regime comes to their senses.”

The President’s assertion that the US has full control over the Strait is false. Iran struck two tankers attempting to transit the waterway earlier this week. Additionally, Iran continues to strike US bases in the Middle East.

The Truth also appears to be a break from Trump’s previous statements about his goals for the conflict. He has insisted that one of the objections was not regime change in Tehran, and his top priority was getting Iran into a new nuclear agreement.

The US and Israel backed major protests in Iran during December and January, but the government in Tehran was able to maintain its hold on power. The US and Israeli war against Iran has created a rally-around-the-flag effect. Despite the war’s economic impact, Tehran is not facing an uprising.
