President Donald Trump said that there was progress in talks with Iran towards a peace agreement.
“The negotiations are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner, and I have informed my representatives not to rush into a deal in that time is on our side,” the President wrote on Truth Social Sunday. “Our relationship with Iran is becoming a much more professional and productive one.”
Multiple outlets have reported that Washington and Tehran are nearing a signing of a memo to end the conflict. Trump said the new deal with Iran will be “THE EXACT OPPOSITE” of the 2015 nuclear agreement negotiated during the Barack Obama presidency.
While Trump has repeatedly claimed that Obama’s deal would lead to Tehran obtaining a nuclear weapon, both the US intelligence community and the international nuclear watchdog say there is no evidence Iran has a nuclear weapons program.
However, Trump has asserted that Iran must also dismantle its nuclear enrichment program. Tehran uses enriched material to create energy and medicine.
Tehran has repeatedly stated that nuclear enrichment is part of the country’s sovereignty, and it is unwilling to export its enriched uranium.
