President Donald Trump said he would order another round of attacks on Iran.
On Sunday, the US bombed an Iranian military site on Larak Island. Washington claimed that the IRGC was preparing to fire a rocket to mine the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran responded by targeting an American military base in Jordan.
On Monday, Trump said the US would continue to attack Iran. “There will be a response,” Trump said. “We’re going to hit them very hard.” He added that the Iran missile strikes were largely defeated by US air defenses in Jordan, with only one missile getting through.
A US official told Axios that the President was considering limited strikes against Iran and compared it to “mow[ing] the lawn.”
Iran is also threatening to escalate the conflict. Reuters reported speaking with a senior Iranian official who said that if there is any American attack on Iran, Tehran will respond “dozens of times greater.”
The conflict between the US and Iran was quiet throughout most of August. The US has shifted its focus from military to imposing an economic war on Iran.
The change in strategy comes as military commanders warned Secretary of War Pete Hegseth that the conflict was unsustainable.
