The vast majority of Democrats believe that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and want Washington to respond by placing sanctions on Tel Aviv.

A YouGov poll of Democratic primary voters released on Friday found 72% believe Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza and 65% want to sanction Israel. Among Gen Z Democrats, over half said Israel policy will impact their voting decisions in 2026.

71% of Democrats told pollsters that they wanted to support candidates who oppose continuing arms shipments to Israel. Washington sends Tel Aviv billions in military assistance every year.

Support for Israel in the US has plummeted as Americans have been appalled by Washington’s unconditional assistance to Tel Aviv’s genocide in Gaza. The YouGov survey found just eight percent of Democrats sympathize with Israel, compared to 45% for Palestinians.

Israel long held bipartisan support in America. However, as Israel accelerated the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and drew the US into its war with Iran, that support has declined.

A Pew poll earlier this year found 45% of Americans had an unfavorable view of Israel, including half of Republicans under 50.
