The US has issued several hardline demands for Iran and is offering minimal incentives for Tehran to agree to a deal. President Donald Trump is threatening to attack Iran if Tehran does not sign an agreement that rolls back its nuclear program.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the US is demanding that Iran dismantle its nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The US bombed those facilities during the war with Iran in June. President Trump has claimed the sites were completely destroyed.

Additionally, Washington is demanding that Tehran transfer all its enriched Uranium to Iran and agree not restart its uranium enrichment program. The proposal put forward by US negotiators does not include any sunset provisions.

The 2015 Iran nuclear deal included sunset provisions that allowed Tehran to have a less restricted civilian nuclear program if it complied with the agreement. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) certified that Iran was in full compliance with the nuclear deal, but Trump withdrew from the pact in 2018.

The US negotiators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are offering Iran minimal sanctions relief if Tehran agrees to Washington’s hardline demands. The economic war on Iran has devastated the economy. The White House believes that increasing poverty in Iran will set the stage for regime change in Tehran.

The US position in negotiations is unlikely to lead to a deal. Iran has offered to dilute its stockpile of 60% enriched uranium in exchange for the US lifting sanctions.

The US is not pushing for Iran to agree to a deal that restricts its missile program. Officials told the Wall Street Journal they believe America’s regional allies can handle that issue with Iran.

If a deal is not reached, Trump has suggested he will order an attack on Iran.
