The head of the World Health Organization said that the ceasefire in Gaza has not improved the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The Gaza Media Ministry reports less than 1,000 trucks of food entered Gaza during the first 11 days of the ceasefire.
“The situation still remains catastrophic because what’s entering is not enough,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, chief of the World Health Organization, said. He continued, “There is no dent in hunger because there is not enough food.”
Under the ceasefire, Israel agreed to allow 600 aid trucks of food each day. Data from the Gaza Media Office shows that just 15% of the trucks have been allowed to enter Gaza.
“We confirm that the total number of humanitarian aid trucks that have entered the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire began has reached 986 trucks out of 6,600 trucks that were supposed to enter until Monday evening, October 20, 2025, according to what was agreed upon in the text of the resolution,” the Media Office said in a post on Telegram.
The number of trucks entering Gaza each day is only slightly higher than the 67 that entered in the months leading up to the ceasefire.
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) warned on Wednesday that the Gaza malnutrition crisis will have long-term effects on Palestinians. “Malnutrition will have generational effects, not on the mother, but on the newborn, likely to result in ever longer lasting care and problems throughout the life of the baby,” Andrew Saberton, deputy executive director of the UNFPA, said.
In August, two international agencies declared that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were in famine conditions. Hundreds of people have starved to death. The famine was caused by a US-backed Israeli siege of Gaza.
