Zelensky Claims Russia Is Sharing Drone Tech with North Korea

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he believes Russia has shared technology for producing jet-powered drones with North Korea. The remarks come on the heels of the South Korean president warning that Ukraine is attempting to bring war to the Korean Peninsula.

Zelensky was asked if Russia had shared with North Korea the technology behind its latest generation of jet-powered drones on Sunday. “Yes, of course,” he replied. “They (Russia) are sharing with North Korea all the technologies. I don’t know about the ballistic and etc, but I think, yes, because North Korea helped them with missiles.”

Zelensky did not provide evidence that Moscow transferred the jet-drone technology.

Zelensky made the statement amid a growing dispute with Seoul over his disclosure of the transfer of two North Korean prisoners of war to South Korea. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung accused Ukraine of having “prayed for the outbreak of war on the Korean Peninsula.”

Kiev initially offered to return the soldiers to North Korea if Pyongyang could facilitate the release of Ukrainian prisoners held by Russia.

However, South Korea objected to the transfer. Under South Korea’s constitution, Seoul considers the entire Korean Peninsula its territory and generally treats North Koreans as South Korean citizens. Seoul and Kiev worked out an arrangement to transfer the two soldiers to South Korea while keeping the move secret.

Ukraine has denied that there was a formal nondisclosure agreement, although South Korea’s National Intelligence Service says Ukraine initially requested that the transfer remain confidential.

Earlier this month, the two soldiers were covertly transferred to South Korea. However, Zelensky made the move public during his address at the UN General Assembly last month. “Recently, we sent two North Korean prisoners of war to the Republic of Korea,” he said.
