President Donald Trump will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Tuesday. The Ukrainian leader is traveling to the US for the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham.
Axios reported speaking with a US official who confirmed Zelensky will meet Trump in the White House on Tuesday. The leaders met earlier this month at the NATO summit in Turkey. During the Ankara summit, President Trump announced that he was giving Kiev a license to produce Patriot missiles in Ukraine.
Trump and Zelensky’s relations appear to have warmed from his first month in office, when the two leaders feuded in the Oval Office in front of the press.
Axios notes that Zelensky’s goal is to solidify support for Ukraine in Washington after Senator Lindsey Graham died earlier this month. Graham was one of the most vocal supporters of waging a proxy war against Russia in Ukraine.
Adding to Zelensky’s momentum is Laura Loomer’s shift towards supporting the war. Loomer traveled to Ukraine and interviewed Zelensky last week.
Trump campaigned against President Joe Biden’s policy of supporting Ukraine. While Trump cut US military aid to Ukraine, Washington has continued to provide critical intelligence to Kiev and allow NATO to buy American weapons for Ukraine.
