US News

  • The FDA gives full approval for the Pfizer covid vaccine. [Link]
  • Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio to six months in prison for burning a BLM flag and having a ‘high-capacity magazine’ in DC. [Link]

China

  • The Quad – an informal anti-China alliance of the US, India, Japan, and Australia – will begin their second annual war games. The Malabar war games will take place off the coast of Guam. [Link]

Afghanistan 

  • CIA Director Bill Burns, traveled to Afghanistan to meet with Taliban leader Baradar. [Link]
  • One member of Afghan forces was killed and several others were injured in a firefight outside of Kabul Airport. It is unclear who the firefight was with and the Pentagon reports no Americans were injured. [Link]
  • The Taliban say they will look to normalize relations with the countries that invaded Afghanistan. [Link]
  • The Taliban say Western staying beyond August 31st will cross a red line. [Link]
  • Iran resumed exporting fuel to Afghanistan at the request of the Taliban. [Link]

Middle East

  • Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will travel to the US to present a new plan on confronting Iran. [Link]
  • Israel bombed Gaza claiming it was a response to fire balloons that set brush fires in southern Israel. [Link]
  • Fighting between the Syrian opposition and government forces continues in the Daara region. [Link]
  • In central Yemen, at least 66 people were killed in fighting over the weekend. Saudi Arabia carried out over two dozen airstrikes in Yemen. [Link]

Africa 

  • The US sanctioned the head of Eritrea’s defense forces for human rights abuses in Tigray, Ethiopia. [Link]
  • Militants attacked a Nigerian army training center. Two soldiers were killed and a third was kidnapped. [Link]
  • Several were killed in a battle between al-Shabaab and the Somali army. Al-Shabaab attacked the city of Amara and seized several armored vehicles. [Link]
