US News

  • Biden’s Build Back Better proposal includes an additional $80 billion for the IRS. Most of the money will go towards targeting Americans and seizing their money. [Link]
  • The FBI warns its employees about ‘Havana Syndrome’ and says the illness is a top priority. [Link]

Ukraine

  • Ukraine’s prime minister requests NATO send more warships to the Black Sea and conduct more flights near Russia’s border. [Link]
  • The US moves the USS Arleigh Burke – a guided-missile destroyer – into the Black Sea. [Link]
  • Ukraine carried out military drills near its border with the rebel Donbas region. [Link]
  • Ukraine’s president claims his government prevented a coup that was planned for next week by Russians. Russia denied any involvement in the plot. [Link]
  • The US delivers two decommissioned Island-class patrol boats to Ukraine. [Link]

China

  • Five American lawmakers travel to Taiwan. [Link]
  • Japan will increase its defense spending to $53 billion annually. Japan will spend just over 1% of its GDP on defense next year. [Link]
  • The USS Howard will make a port call in New Zealand. The warship will make the first stop by a US warship in New Zealand since 2016. [Link]

Israel

  • An Israeli intelligence officer insulted and antagonized a young Palestinian boy on social media. The boy was then killed in a conflict with Israeli security forces. [Link]
  • After the NSO Group Pegasus scandal, Israel cut the number of countries it exports spyware to from over 100 to 37. Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and the UAE are reported to have been removed from the approved list. [Link]
  • Israel tells the US not to settle for a partial deal with Iran. [Link]

Africa

  • A lawyer for Saif al-Islam says militants prevented al-Islam from submitting an appeal to his disqualification from the presidential election. [Link]
  • Ethiopia tells the US to stop spreading misinformation and accuses the US of supporting Tigrayian forces. 
  • An al-Jazeera investigation finds the UAE has been giving military support to the Ethiopian government. [Link] 
  • A battle in Burkina Faso leaves three soldiers and 11 militants dead. [Link]
  • Protests in Sudan continue after the prime minister was returned to power. Protesters are unhappy with the agreement Prime Minister Hamdok made with military leaders. 
  • A top Sudanese military official says Hamdok was aware that the military was planning to seize power near the end of October and was agreeable to it. [Link]
  • Recent fighting in the Darfur region of Sudan left 35 dead. [Link] 
  • Twelve civilians were killed at a displaced person camp in the Congo. [Link]
