US News

  • The UK High Court overturns the district court ruling and will allow Assange to be extradited to the US. Assange’s legal team will have the ability to appeal. [Link]
  • The Biden administration announced new restrictions against the export of malicious cyber tools. The admin also created a new $4 million fund to counter authoritarian censorship. [Link]
  • The Air Force wants the new B-21 bomber to be able to operate in a team with five unmanned aerial vehicles. [Link]

Covid

  • The FDA grants emergency authorization to give 16 and 17 year-olds boosters of the Pfizer covid vaccine. [Link]
  • Amtrak predicts it will have to cut services in January because of losing employees due to the vaccine mandate. Amtrak is struggling to hire as it lacks the leadership and staff to recruit and onboard new employees. [Link]
  • The US sanctions officials from El Salvador and Guatemala alleging they engaged in corruption with Covid funds. [Link]
  • South Korea tells adults to get a covid booster after three months. [Link]

Russia

  • A Lithuanian official said the US promised to deploy more weapons to central European NATO countries. [Link]
  • The UK is sending 150 troops to Poland and a team of soldiers to Lithuania to prevent migrants from reaching the EU. [Link]
  • The EU will place sanctions on Russia targeting Wagner, a country that sends Russian mercenaries abroad. [Link]
  • Ukrainian President Zelensky asked Biden to sanction Russia and approve large weapons transfers to Ukraine. [Link]
  • Biden spoke with Ukraine’s president and reaffirmed US support for Ukraine’s sovereignty. [Link]

  • The UAE freeze work on a factory being built by a Chinese company after the US said it would be used for military purposes. [Link]

Pakistan

  • The Tehreek-e-Taliban end a ceasefire with the Pakistani government. [Link]

Myanmar

  • The State Department condemns “credible” reports from Myanmar that soldiers killed 11 people, then burned their bodies. [Link]
  • Bangladesh officials destroyed 1,000 Rohingya shops in refugee camps. [Link]

Middle East

  • A Saudi women’s rights activist is suing three Americans in a US court. She alleges the Americans assisted the UAE in hacking her phones, leading to her arrest and torture. [Link]
  • After Israel’s latest air war against Gaza in May, several buildings that were not directly hit by Israeli strikes were so damaged they became unsafe to live in. [Link]
  • Biden orders his team to prepare ‘other options’ for Iran if talks fail. [Link]
  • Turkey says PKK forces killed three Turkish soldiers in Iraq. Turkey claims it then killed six Kurdish militants with airstrikes. [Link]

  • Niger and Burkina Faso report killing 100 ‘terrorists’ in a joint military operation. [Link]
  • Recent fighting in West Darfur has killed over 100. [Link]
  • At least 16 people were killed in an attack on a town in the Congo. The Allied Democratic Forces are suspected to be behind the attack. [Link]
