US News

  • The US is seeking the extradition of John Joël Joseph from Jamacia. Joseph is accused by the US of having a role in the assassination of Haiti’s president last summer. [Link]

Russia

  • Italy says it will view Russian demands for Rubles as payments as a violation of contract. [Link]
  • Japan announced new sanctions on over 100 Russian individuals and businesses. [Link]
  • Biden says NATO will respond to chemical weapons use in Ukraine. [Link]
  • The UK plans to deploy 6,000 “defensive missiles” to Ukraine. [Link]
  • Ukraine asked Biden not to sanction Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, saying he was acting as a mediator. Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK. [Link]
  • Ukraine and Russia swap some prisoners, including those Ukrainians captured on Snake Island. [Link]
  • The Washington Post reports top Russian military officials are not responding to calls from Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and head of the Joint Chiefs Mark Milley. Russia and the US do maintain a deconfliction line. [Link]
  • Two recent leaks from the Pentagon say there is no imminent threat of chemical weapons use and Russia has been restrained in its bombing missions. [Link]

China

  • The Finical Times reports China and the Solomon Islands are nearing an agreement that will allow Chinese forces in the Pacific nation. [Link]

Middle East

  • Iran says unrealistic US demands are to blame for the lack of progress in a nuclear agreement. [Link]
  • The US approved the sale of M270 multiple rocket launcher systems to Bahrain. The sale would be for $176 million. [Link]
  • A top leader of the Saudi-backed Yemen government was killed. [Link]

Ethiopia

  • The Ethiopian government declared a humanitarian ceasefire in Tigray. [Link]
