US News

  • Relatives of 19-year-old Anton Black, who died after being detained by police officers in Maryland, have reached a $5m partial settlement in their wrongful death lawsuit. AJ
  • According to a lawsuit filed by the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender (OPD), the practice came to light after a case in which New Jersey State Police successfully subpoenaed a testing lab for a blood sample drawn from a child. Police then performed DNA analysis on the blood sample that reportedly linked the child’s father to a crime committed more than 25 years ago. Tech Dirt

Ukraine

  • The US approves a new $1 billion weapons transfer to Ukraine. The Hill
  • The World Bank said the $4.5bn in new aid to Kiev, funded by a US grant, will “contribute to sustaining the government’s administrative and service delivery capacity to exercise core functions at the national and regional levels.” AJ
  • CBS News retracted a documentary it briefly released on Sunday after pressure from the Ukrainian government. The original documentary CBS put out examined the flow of military aid to Ukraine and quoted someone familiar with the process who said in April that only 30% of the arms were making it to the frontline.   • Russia has suspended an arrangement that allowed US and Russian inspectors to visit each other’s nuclear weapons sites under the 2010 New Start treaty. Guardian AWC
  • Northrop Grumman is partnering with rocket startup Firefly Aerospace to build a new version of its workhorse Antares rocket without Russian-made engines that were cut off from the US after the invasion of Ukraine. Reuters

Korea

  • The US Department of the Treasury has announced sanctions against the virtual currency mixer Tornado Cash. The US claims it assisted North Korean hacking. AJ

China

  • The Pentagon has not changed its assessment that China is not planning to invade Taiwan in the next two years, the Defense Department’s top policy official said. Politico

Iran

  • A top EU official says a final draft agreement to revive the Iran Nuclear Deal is not on the table and both sides are consulting their capitals. AP

Mali

  • At least 17 soldiers and four civilians were killed Sunday in an attack in a strategic border zone between Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, Mali’s army said. France 24
