EU Submits Final Text of Iran Deal; Negotiations Over

by | Aug 8, 2022

The EU’s return to the Iran nuclear talks in Vienna appears to have borne fruit, as after just four days they have submitted what they are calling the final text that tackled everything. The text had been more or less finalized for months, but the EU is now saying this is it, and the question is if Iran and the US will accept it as written.

For Iran, this appears a straightforward matter. They want the inquiry on uranium particles found at undisclosed sites resolved, and that’s the red line for that country to accept what’s on offer.

The US, however, is not clear at all as to its intentions. The Biden Administration has said there is no cost to hearing out the process but has been very stubborn about agreeing to anything. The Administration will probably want to keep the inquiry to continue, for spite if for nothing else.

The EU is very hopeful that they’ve succeeded with the draft text, and Russian Envoy Mikhail Ulyanov told reporters that that “we stand five minutes or five seconds from the finish line.

The negotiations may have finished up, but whether it’s a good or bad finish is still very much up in the air.
