  • Around 70,000 protesters marched in Prague on Saturday to demonstrate against the Czech government over rising energy prices and to demand an end to sanctions on Russia and arms shipments to Ukraine. AWC
  • On Monday, Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal met with European leaders to request more weapons and suggest Kiev could help bring down gas prices. European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell pledged the bloc would continue to support Ukraine no matter what. The Institute
  • The Russian Defense Ministry said Saturday that Ukrainian forces attempted to capture the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) on Friday night. AWC
  • Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said Sunday that Israel was applying pressure on the US over the Iran nuclear deal effectively while ensuring that relations with Washington are not damaged. AWC

China

  • Bloomberg reported on Saturday that the Biden administration is considering moves to restrict US investments in Chinese technology and companies as Washington continues to take measures to sanction Beijing amid soaring tensions. AWC

Afghanistan 

  • A suicide bomber killed six people in Kabul, including two employees at the Russian embassy. Reuters

Middle East

  • The US flew two B-52 bombers over the Middle East. Fox
  • Israel released a report on its investigation into the murder of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. The report says she was likely killed unintentionally by an Israeli soldier but Tel Aviv will not investigate further. MEE
  • The European Union’s top diplomat on Monday said that the prospects of reviving the Iran nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, are “in danger” after Washington’s negative reaction to Tehran’s latest response in the ongoing negotiations. AWC
  • During a visit to Jerusalem, Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) said that the Biden administration has committed to submitting any agreement reached with Iran related to its nuclear program to Congress for review. AWC
  • The US is reportedly growing its military presence in Syria this weekend, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights saying they have set up a third military base in northeastern Hasakeh Province. AWC
  • The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement Monday responding to recent Israeli attacks in Syria, dismissing the narrative that Israel is attacking Iranian targets there. AWC

Africa

  • At least 35 civilians were killed by an IED in Burkina Faso. France 24
  • Mali releases three of the 50 captured Ivorian soldiers. The soldiers were in Mali doing contract work for the UN. The Malian government considers the Ivorian soldiers as mercenaries. VOA
