US News

  • The US has granted Chevron a limited license to restart pumping oil in Venezuela in the most significant easing of sanctions on the country since the harsh measures were imposed by the Trump administration. AWC
  • Reps. Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Mike Turner (R-OH) appeared on ABC News’s This Week on Sunday and pledged that aid for Ukraine will continue to flow unimpeded once Republicans have a majority in the House in January. AWC

Russia

  • Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said Monday that NATO countries need to ramp up weapons production, or Kyiv won’t be able to win the war against Russia. AWC
  • The US is considering supplying Ukraine with a new longer-range rocket system that can hit targets up to about 100 miles away, twice the range of the artillery systems the US has been providing Ukraine. AWC
  • EU diplomats failed on Monday to agree on a set price cap for Russian oil as a December 5 deadline for the policy is approaching, Reuters reported. AWC
  • NATO plans to kick off cyber war games in Estonia this week. NATO
  • High-level European officials are furious with the Biden administration and are now accusing the US of profiting from the war in Ukraine while Europe is facing a potential energy crisis. AWC
  • A meeting between US and Russian officials to discuss the last remaining nuclear arms control treaty between the two powers, the New START, has been postponed, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Monday. AWC

Middle East

  • The US and Israeli air forces will simulate attacking Iran during drills over the Mediterranean Sea and Israel this week, The Jerusalem Post reported on Tuesday. AWC
  • The US is attempting to prevent Turkey from invading Syria. The Cradle
  • US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Friday that two rockets were fired at a US base in northeast Syria, but no injuries or damage occurred, marking the second attempted attack on US forces in the country in nine days. AWC
