US News

  • Five police officers who killed two unarmed people got their jobs back. The officers fired dozens of shots into the victim’s car. [Link]

  • Tulsi Gabbard becomes a co-sponsor of Ilhan Omar’s bill that affirms Americans rights to boycott foreign states. The bill is written as a support of the BDS movement. Gabbard recently voted for a bill that condemns BDS. [Link]

The New Cold War

  • The Pentagon is seeking funding for missiles that would have violated the INF Treaty. [Link]
  • Trump places additional sanctions on Russia over the Skripal poisoning. Russia has denied any involvement in the poisoning, and no one has been able to provide evidence. Trump announced the new sanctions after receiving pressure from Congress. [Link]

Kashmir

  • India cuts telephone and internet services in Kashmir. [Link]
  • India is cracking down on Kashmiri leadership. [Link]
  • India moves to annex Kashmir. [Link]

Middle East

  • Israel gives permits to build 6,000 new Israeli settlement home and 700 Palestinian homes in the West Bank. [Link]
  • Iran claims to seize an Iraqi ship smuggling oil. [Link]
  • AQAP killed at least 19 Yemeni soldiers. This is the second AQAP attack on the Saudi backed forces in the past week. [Link]

Africa 

  • The mayor of Mogadishu was killed in an al-Shabaab suicide attack. He received medical treatment in Qatar before he died. [Link]
  • At least 15 Ethiopians died of hunger and thirst attempted to cross from Africa into Yemen. [Link]
  • Kenyan security forces are now training security forces from 20 African nations to counter the growing use of IEDs. The Pentagon reported IEDs were used in at least nine African countries in 2018. [Link]
  • The ruling military council in Sudan detained nine soldiers for the killing of six people. Four of those killed were schoolchildren. The killings sparked protests. [Link]
