US News

  • Chicago police selectively released information about the police killing of an innocent man to make it appear he was a danger to officers. When the full video was released, it was clear the murdered man was no threat to the officers. [Link]
  • An American Airlines airplane mechanic is facing charges for tampering with the navigation system on a plane. He is now being accused of doing the tampering because he is a terrorist. [Link]

Cuba

  • Canadian researchers believe US diplomats suffered symptoms from nausea to memory loss because of neurotoxins in mosquito spray. The Cuban government had stepped up spraying because of the Zike virus. The US claimed that the symptoms were caused by the Cubans using sonic weapons. [Link]
  • The US expelled two members of the Cuban delegation to the US. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • Secretary of State Pompeo announces the US will withhold $160 million in aid to Afghanistan. $100 million was for an energy infrastructure project. Pompeo said the project would be completed with off-budget funds. [Link]
  • A US drone strikes killed at least 30 Afghan civilians. The civilians worked as tree nut pickers and had just finished picking for the day. [Link]
  • A Taliban truck bomb kills at least 20 people. The truck exploded outside of a hospital. [Link]

Middle East

  • Israel’s Blue and White party reject a unity coalition with Netanyahu as the Prime Minister. [Link]
  • Two Senators ask Trump to end nuclear negotiations with Saudi Arabia. [Link]
  • Moon of Alabama explains the threat of a war with Iran, as a reaction to the strikes on the Saudi oil facility, is unlikely. [Link]

Africa

  • Twenty-eight displaced people were killed over two days in the Congo. [Link]
  • The Islamic State claimed responsibility for an attack in Burkina Faso that killed 24 soldiers. [Link]
