It’s unclear to what extent Iran actually was involved—it’s always possible that this is a false narrative being used to gin up tensions and cause a war—but no matter who was responsible, these attacks demonstrate the extent to which countries like Iran and Yemen could wage asymmetrical war on more powerful countries like the U.S., severely hurting their adversaries with little cost and no risk. With this in mind, those in power need be extremely cautious about America’s relationship with Iran and in the rest of the region.
