US News

  • Trump says he will surge to fight violent crime. His new push will include $600 million in military equipment to police forces. [Link]
  • US veterans are increasingly suffering from cancer. [Link]

Europe

  • The Democratic Socialist Party in Germany is demanding all US troops leave the country. [Link]
  • Ukraine is prepared to withdraw troops from another area of the frontline in the Donbas region. [Link]

North Korea

  • A new report finds US, UN, and other sanctions on North Korea created delays and funding shortfalls lead to the deaths of over 3,000 children in 2018. [Link]
  • North Korea tested two short-range ballistic missiles. [Link]

Kashmir

  • India will revoke Kashmir’s autonomy on Thursday. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • There were 40 airstrikes per day in Afghanistan in September. [Link]
  • CIA-backed militias in Afghanistan are now targeting clinics and accusing the staff of supporting the Taliban. [Link] 

Syria

  • The US is moving 100s of soldiers in and out of Syria. The US will keep about 900 troops in Syria. [Link]
  • Syrian Kurds report the US continues to patrol the Turkish and Syrian border. [Link]
  • A skirmish between Turkish and Syrian soldiers inside Syria leaves six Syrian soldiers dead and 18 captured by Turkey. [Link] Syria state media reported heavy fighting. [Link]
  • Turkey claims to have information that Syrian Kurdish forces have not completely withdraw from the safe zone along the border. [Link]
  • The Syrian Army calls on the Syrian Kurdish forces to unite with the Syrian Army against the common enemy – Turkey. The Syrian Kurds rejected the proposal until a political deal is completed between Assad and the Syrian Kurds. [Link]

Middle East

  • The US announces Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Oman will join the US in sanctioning 25 Iranian people, companies, and groups. [Link]
  • Two more protesters were killed in Iraq. The protesters were struck directly in the head with tear gas canisters. Since protests started four weeks ago, over 250 protesters have been killed. [Link]
  • An Iraqi soldier was killed by a rocket inside the Green Zone. [Link]
  • A US soldier died of non-combat related injuries in Iraq. [Link]
  • The UAE transfers control of Aden to Saudi forces. [Link]

Niger

  • Twelve soldiers in Niger were killed in an attack. Boko Haram is suspected to be behind the attack. [Link]
