Afghanistan
- The Taliban kill 15 Afghan government forces in an attack. [Link]
Middle East
- Japan will send a warship, surveillance planes, and attack helicopters to the Middle East to defend Japanese ships in the Persian Gulf. [Link]

- Iraq’s parliament passed a new election law. Under the new law, voters can choose individual members of parliament. Previously, Iraqis could only choose off party lists. [Link]
- Iraq’s parliament agreed to hold a new election but also put forward a new prime minister. Assad al-Edani was selected to be prime minister and he was backed by Hadi al-Amiri’s party. The president of Iraq must now designate the nominated prime minister to the position. However, the Iraqi president is refusing. He believes the selection of Edani does not meet the demands of the protesters. He does now have the power to reject a nominee and is now threatening to resign. [Link]
- Twelve aid agencies withdrew from a Yemeni town after their offices came under attack by unknown militants. [Link]
Africa
- A car bomb kills seven civilians in Somalia. [Link]
- The US will create an Envoy to Combat Terrorism in the Sahel region of Africa. The envoy will coordinate with the intelligence community, State Department, and Pentagon to ramp up the fight against Islamist groups in the Sahel. [Link]
- A high ranking Libyan official says his government will ask for Turkish support if the war in Tripoli escalates. [Link]
