US News

  • New Mexico’s Attorney General claims Google illegally collected data on school children using Chromebooks. [Link]
  • Assange’s extradition hearing begins today. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • The Taliban and the US started the week-long reduction in violence pact. If successful, the pact will lead to the signing of a peace deal between the US and the Taliban on the 29th. Some fighting broke out on the first day of the pact. [Link]
  • The reduction in violence pact held through the weekend. There were a few reports of clashes. The Taliban have ordered their fighters into defensive positions. [Link]

Middle East

  • Israel carries out airstrikes in Gaza. [Link]
  • Iran was placed on a blacklist by a Paris based international financial watchdog. The Iranian moderates had worked to pass reform legislation that would have prevented Iran from being blacklisted. However, the moderates were unable to pass the reforms, in part because of Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Nuclear Deal. The US also pushed for Iran to be blacklisted by the group. [Link]
  • Iraqi security forces killed a protester. [Link]

Syria

  • Israeli warplanes bombed Damascus. Six people were killed in the attack. [Link]
  • A Turkish soldier was killed by a Syrian bomb in Idlib. Sixteen Turkish soldiers have died in Syria this month. [Link]
  • Turkey has sent 2,700 military vehicles and over 7,000 soldiers into Syria this month. [Link]

Libya

  • The Libyan National Army reports 16 Turkish soldiers have died fighting in Libya. [Link]
