US News

  • A Washington woman was targeted by authorities for running a food pantry. The authorities said she didn’t have a proper permit and must pay a fine. [Link]
  • The US flew B-1B bombers over the South China Sea. [Link]
  • Secretary of State Pompeo says there is significant evidence the coronavirus came from a research lab in Wuhan. [Link]

North Korea

  • Reports say shots were shot from North Korea across the DMZ. Pompeo says it was likely an accident. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • The US will stop releasing data on Taliban attacks. The US has a pattern of ending the release data that paints the Afghan War as a failure. [Link]
  • The Spokesperson for US Forces in Afghanistan argued with a Taliban official over Twitter about the violence in Afghanistan. [Link] 
  • Progress is being made in the ongoing negotiations between the two men claiming to be Afghanistan’s president – Ghani and Abdullah. [Link]
  • The Afghan government killed twice as many children as the Taliban in the first three months of 2020. [Link]

Middle East

  • Pompeo and Senator Warren argue over Twitter over Iran policy. Warren was pushing back against the administration’s attempt to extend the arms embargo on Iran without reentering the nuclear deal. [Link]
  • The US imposes sanctions on an Iranian-Iraqi businessman claiming he was working with the Quds force. [Link]
  • The Yemeni government signs a deal with the Southern Separatists. The deal ends fighting over a disputed island. [Link]

Africa 

  • Egypt reports recent military operations in the Sinai have killed 126 militants. The ops also resulted in 15 Egyptian forces killed or injured. [Link]
  • The Islamic State claims responsibility for an attack in the Sinai on Egyptian security forces. [Link]
  • A French foreign legion soldier dies after being wounded in Mali. [Link]
