Coronavirus

  • Hundreds of millions of people will be thrust into extreme poverty by the COVID shutdowns. The starvation caused by economic disturbances may kill more people than coronavirus. [Link]

US News

  • In a court filing, the FBI accidentally revealed the identity of a Saudi official who may have helped the 9/11 hijackers. The identity of the official had been kept secret. The FBI forgot to redact his name in a portion of a court filing that was made public. The official was Mussaed Ahmed al-Jarrah. [Link]
  • Senate Majority Leader McConnell is pushing to renew FISA authorities that expired in March. In the bill, it includes new government powers to be able to look up Americans’ internet search histories without a warrant. [Link]
  • Body camera footage shows a Los Angeles police beating a man for no reason. [Link]
  • A Rabbi in New York was arrested for endangering the life of a child because he let his young children walk to a nearby store. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • The death toll from an attack on an Afghan hospital rises to 16. At least two babies were killed. [Link]
  • Afghanistan’s president says because of the attack on the hospital, the Afghan Army will resume its operations against the Taliban. The Taliban denied carrying out the attack. [Link]
  • At least nine civilians were killed by an Afghan government airstrike. [Link]

Middle East

  • Russia says it is ridiculous for the US to claim it is still a party to the JCPOA. [Link]
  • Yemen’s southern separatists are refusing de-escalation and negotiation offers from the Saudi-backed government. [Link]
