US News

  • On Friday, the Trump administration signaled TikTok would be banned. However, Microsoft is in plans to buy the US version of TikTok. Facebook is set to launch its own version of TikTok. [Link]
  • Trump tweets Homeland Security will not leave Portland until local police clean up anarchists and agitators. [Link]
  • A 15-year-old Michigan high school student has been released from juvenile detention after serving several months for not completing online-education during covid. [Link]
  • A Key West couple, who refused a mandatory quarantine, were arrested and are being held in jail. [Link]

Foreign Policy

  • Nine US soldiers are believed to have died in a training accident. [Link]
  • The National Guard undergoes a reorganization to be more prepared for a war with Russia or China. [Link]
  • The US sanctions a Chinese company and two officials over alleged human rights abuses against the Uyghurs. [Link]

South America

  • Venezuela’s opposition parties say they will not participate in the December election. [Link]
  • The Brazilian supreme court fined Facebook hundreds of thousands of dollars for failing to follow the courts orders. Facebook was ordered to ban the accounts of several allies to the country’s president. Facebook only blocked the accounts in Brazil. [Link]

Afghanistan 

  • The Taliban and the Afghan government successfully held a ceasefire over the weekend. ISIS carried out one terror attack, killing 24 people. The Afghan government suggested continuing the ceasefire with the Taliban. The two sides have agreed to start talks soon. [Link]

Middle East

  • Iran arrested the leader of a US-based Iranian group that has carried out terror attacks in Iran. [Link]
  • The US sanctioned a Turkish businessman for supporting ISIS. [Link]
  • A US oil company signed a deal with the Syrian Kurds to produce oil in US-occupied Syria. [Link]
  • ISIS sold looted artifacts on Facebook. [Link]
  • Iraq’s Prime Minister calls for early elections to be held in June 2021. The parliament must approve the new election date. [Link]
