US News

  • Schools are calling the child services on the families of students who do not attend online classes. [Link]
  • Newly leaked documents published by BlueLeaks shows TikTok cooperates with US law enforcement in handing over information about users. The FBI and DHS monitored TikTok during the George Floyd protests. [Link]
  • A former CIA officer has been charged with spying for China. [Link]

Kashmir

  • Militants in Kashmir killed six Indian police in recent days. Two were killed on Friday and four on Monday. Two militants were also killed Monday. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • The US has made $2 million in condolence payments in Afghanistan since 2016. The payments range from about $300 to $40,000. [Link]
  • US intelligence is now claiming that Iran is offering bounties to the Taliban. So far, the claim lacks evidence. [Link]

Israel/UAE Deal

  • The US Ambassador to Israel says the UAE/Israel deal could allow for more arms sales to the UAE. The US currently limits arms sales to Arab states to make sure Israel has more advanced weapons. [Link]
  • Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu says he opposes selling the F-35 to the UAE. [Link]
  • Israel says it expects Bahrain and Oman to follow the UAE is normalizing relations with Israel. [Link]
  • Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner says that Israel has agreed to hold on annexation until the US gives approval and the US will not give approval for “some time.” Kushner says the purpose of the hold is to allow the Israel-UAE deal to unfold. [Link]

Middle East

  • Gaza shuts down its only powerplant because Israel has cut fuel shipments. [Link]
  • A UN tribunal finds no evidence that Hezbollah or Syria was involved in the 2005 assassination of then-Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri. [Link]
  • Rockets fell inside an Iraqi base that hosts US-coalition troops. No injuries were reported. [Link]
  • Syrian state media reports two US helicopters attacked a Syrian Army checkpoint. The attack came after a US patrol was turned back by the checkpoint. One Syrian soldier was killed in the attack. [Link]

Africa

  • The number of African migrants landing in Italy has doubled over the past year. About 21,000 Africans landed in Italy. [Link]
  • At least 16 people were killed in an al-Shabaab attack on a Mogadishu hotel. [Link]
