US News

  • Two people were killed in the third night of riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The riots started after police shot James Blake in the back seven times. Blake’s family announced he will survive but is paralyzed. [Link]
  • Nearly five million Americans became gun owners for the first time in 2020. [Link]
  • The Trump administration is carrying out several federal executions. If scheduled executions go ahead, Trump will execute the most men since Eisenhower. [Link]
  • Assange’s partner visits him in prison for the first time in six months. She reports he is in a lot of pain. [Link]
  • Facebook followed orders from the Thai government and blocked a large Facebook group opposed to the government. [Link]
  • China says a US spy plane entered a no-fly zone during live-fire drills. [Link]

Europe

  • France, Italy, Greece, and Cyprus carried out naval drills to show opposition to Turkey’s actions in the Mediterranean Sea. [Link]

Middle East

  • The UN Security Council rejects the US proposal to impose snapback sanctions on Iran. [Link]
  • Israeli carried out strikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. [Link]
  • Lebanon opposes any changes to the UN mission inside the country. [Link]
  • The Yemeni Southern Transitional Council again pulls out of an agreement with the Saudis. For most of the war, the Saudi’s have aligned with the STC against the Houthi. However, the STC frequently breaks with the Saudi causing battles between the two sides. [Link]

Congo

  • The Congo government says an Islamist group slaughtered 20 people. [Link]
