US News

  • The US will ban WeChat and new downloads of TikTok. Users with the TikTok app already downloaded will be able to use it until mid-November. Trump continues to demand the platform be sold to an American company. [Link]
  • After ByteDance announced it would sell TikTok to Oracle, Trump rescinded the ban. A judge blocked the ban on WeChat. [Link] 
  • The Trump administration is trying to get Russia to accept more concessions before extending New Start. [Link]
  • Russia rejected extending New State under the terms proposed by the Trump administration. Russia now sees a minimal chance of extending New Start. [Link]

Pakistan

  • The Tehreek-e-Taliban, a Pakistani group with no ties to the Afghan Taliban, are increasingly attacking security forces in northeast Pakistan. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • Twenty-four civilians were killed by an Afghan government airstrike. [Link]
  • Members of the Taliban kill seven Afghan government troops in an insider attack. The Taliban members also stole equipment from the base. [Link]

Iran

  • France, the UK, and Germany announce they will not support the US effort to extend international sanctions against Iran. [Link]
  • The US plans to announce sanctions against several Iranians. [Link]

Middle East

  • US Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, says he thinks annexation will happen, and it was only delayed in the Israel-UAE agreement. [Link]
  • The US announced a new deployment of soldiers to Syria. The US will deploy fewer than 100 soldiers and six Bradly vehicles. The increase in troops comes after run-ins between the US and Russian/Syrian armies in recent weeks. [Link]
