  • Trump is considering naming human rights groups like Amnesty International as ‘anti-Semitic’ and urged other governments not to support them. [Link]
  • Secretary of State Pompeo says the US is still investigating what caused Americans living at the consulate in Cuba to become sick at the start of Trump’s term. The sickness was used to begin dissolving US/Cuba relations that had been partly restored under Obama. [Link]
  • The US urges countries that have signed on to an international agreement to ban nuclear weapons to remove their support from the agreement. [Link]
  • Russia gives heroic whistleblower Edward Snowden permanent residency. [Link]

China

  • The State Department is cracking down on six Chinese media outlets by classifying them as foreign missions. [Link]
  • The State Department approved a $1.8 billion arms deal to Taiwan. The deal includes rockets, missiles, and F-16 upgrades. [Link]

Azerbaijan 

  • Turkey says it is ready to send troops to Azerbaijan if requested. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • NATO’s Secretary-General dismisses Trump’s idea of removing troops by Christmas. NATO has around 12,000 troops in Afghanistan. [Link]
  • An Afghan government airstrike hit a school. At least 12 died in the strike, including children. [Link]
  • The Taliban killed at least 34 members of the Afghan security forces in an attack. [Link]
