US News

  • Bodycam footage shows a police officer murdering 13-year-old Adam Toledo. [Link]
  • Crosley Green was convicted of murder with no physical evidence. Three witnesses testified against him, but all later recanted saying they were pressured to testify against Green. His conviction was overturned in 2018, but he remained in jail. He was granted release because of a medical condition but is under house arrest. [Link]

Russia

  • Biden declared the Russian threat a national emergency. [Link]
  • A bipartisan group of senators introduced a bill that would prevent the US from exiting NATO. [Link]
  • The US Intelligence Community accesses the ‘Russia-Taliban bounty claim’ with low to medium confidence. [Link] The State Department cited the false ‘bountygate’ claim when placing new sanctions on Russia. [Link]
  • Ukraine and Georgia say they need a path to NATO and EU membership. Ukraine says if it doesn’t have a path to NATO membership it will look at acquiring nuclear weapons. [Link]

Cuba

  • Raul Castro is retiring as head of Cuba’s Communist Party. [Link]

Middle East

  • The US and Iranian indirect talks resumed in Vienna on Thursday. [Link] 
  • Israel says a rocket from Gaza landed in Israel. In response, Israel bombed three targets in Gaza. [Link]
  • Iraq is pushing for a timetable on US troop withdrawal. [Link]

Uganda

  • The US imposed visa restrictions on those in Uganda the US believes attempted to undermine the country’s election. [Link]
