US News

  • Congresswoman Marjorie Taylore-Green received a 12-hour Twitter suspension for tweeting “covid misinformation.” Twitter flagged two of Taylor-Green’s tweets where she opposed mask mandates and vaccine mandates for the military. In the other Tweet, Taylor-Green said reducing obesity would reduce the risk from covid. [Link]
  • The LAPD says a bomb squad truck exploded earlier this month because officers under-estimated the weight of fireworks. Several people were injured and made homeless by the explosion. [Link]
  • The Department of Justice issued new rules on seizing the records of journalists who release information that has been leaked to them. The rules say prosecutors will not be able to seize the records unless the journalist is suspected to be an agent of a foreign power or terrorist group. [Link]

Latin America

  • Haiti’s acting Prime Minister Claude Joseph agreed to step down to allow Ariel Henry to take over the role. Joseph made the decision a few days after Western power announced their support for Henry. [Link]
  • Peru’s electoral commission confirmed Pedro Castillo was the winner of the June 6th presidential election. [Link]

Great Power

  • The US signed a deal with Hungry to access two new bases. [Link]
  • The US launched another naval war game in the Black Sea. Breeze 2021 is hosted by Bulgaria and is hosting 30 ships from 14 countries. [Link]
  • The US, EU, and NATO are blaming China for a cyberattack on Microsoft. [Link]
  • The US, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and the UK are engaging in the Talisman Sabre war games in Australia. The war games involve 17,000 troops. [Link]

Afghanistan

  • Rockets landed near the presidential palace in Afghanistan. The Taliban denied responsibility. [Link]
  • Pentagon Spokesperson John Kirby said the US will send 2,500 Afghan special visa applicants to Fort Lee in Virginia. [Link]
  • Turkey will hold talks with the Taliban about Turkey’s planned deployment of troops to the Kabul Airport. [Link]

Middle East

  • Biden is considering new sanctions on Iran that would target oil sales to China. [Link]
  • Israel bombed near Aleppo, Syria. [Link]
  • The US denied it was behind a drone attack on a Shia militia near the Iraq/Syria border. [Link]
  • The Iraqi Prime Minister says he needs US air support to fight ISIS but wants US combat troops to leave Iraq. [Link]
  • A suicide bomber killed 35 people in Iraq’s Sadr City. [Link]
