What Social Animals Owe to Each Other
Hooray! Announcing the publication of executive editor Sheldon Richman's new book, What Social Animals Owe to Each Other! These essays, written over the past 20 years, have a single underlying theme: namely, that we human beings, as social animals, need individual freedom to fully flourish. The equation is simple: individual freedom = social cooperation = individual and social flourishing. Many corollaries follow. To pick one, the freedom to choose with whom we will cooperate entails competition among those who wish to cooperate with any given individual. So the imagined conflict between...
7/24/20 Sheldon Richman on the Two-State Illusion
Scott talks to Sheldon Richman about the dawning realization that a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians is never going to happen. Although Prime Minister Netanyahu recently backed down from his official plans for annexation of the West Bank, Richman says that for all practical purposes these territories were annexed years ago. And the current military occupation and subjugation of their Palestinian residents is unlikely to change in any meaningful way. Scott and Richman's hope, echoed by a growing anti-Zionist movement in America, is that by acknowledging the false promise of...
re Opposing Militias
Steve, what an embarrassment. Those two groups -- so obviously! -- ought to be protesting together. But how could simple cerebral cortexes overpower something so obvious as stupid skin color? Sheesh.
Mary Shaw is a Guilty Murderer
That's the judge who signed Breonna Taylor's death warrant. Like the kids in the street chant: Say Her Name: Judge Mary Shaw, The Guilty Murderer. But at least she can be stuck living in a society where everyone knows that Mary Shaw is a guilty murderer. She murderers innocent women in their sleep. She is a dangerous psychopath. Her family is forever dishonored by her heinous crime. The...

If That Ain’t The Most Soviet Thing…
Guys, check out this screed against a payroll tax cut at CNN.com. Their awesome points: Trump wants it. Some Republicans and Democrats don't want it. Some people say it won't "boost" the economy now. It won't help people who don't have jobs. There's still a virus, and payroll tax cuts can't change that fact, so there! Some people say direct welfare payments are always preferable to tax cuts. And of course: how are we going to afford all those direct welfare payments if we cut tax revenue? I tell ya what.
Donald Trump on Ghislaine Maxwell: ‘I Wish Her Well’
"I just wish her well, frankly. I've met her numerous times over the years... I just wish her well, whatever it is." Anyone else? Anyone else wish Ghislaine Maxwell "well"? I don't. I think that if only bad things happen to her from now on that would be just fine. Here are some pictures of some of the times Trump and Maxwell were seen together in public.
