The standard is the olive drab variant of Chesterton’s Fence.

Captain Kristen M. Griest and First Lieutenant Shaye L. Haver made history on August 21, 2015, as the first two women to graduate from Ranger School under incredibly fake conditions. They were part of an initial group of 19 female soldiers who volunteered for the first co-ed class in April 2015.

Griest has been publicly linked to a West Point Tactical Officer role since 2022; Haver’s last clearly reported assignment was with The Old Guard (with a move to CGSC around 2023). Both are still described as serving in the Army.

Both are currently Majors in Infantry Branch.

Nearly all historical graduates are men. Subtracting the ~150–160+ women (starting in 2015) from the sub-99,000 total leaves roughly 98,800+ male graduates since the 1950s. Recent classes still show high attrition (often 50–60%+), with pass rates typically in the 30–45% range depending on the year and cohort.

Shame.
