I’m writing to tell you some things that you know, but I fear are never quite discussed in precisely the relevant terms in Washington DC.
To put it very simply there is a massive regional civil war in the Middle East right now. Forget blame and all, but just here are the facts, slightly over-simplified:
It’s the USA, Israel, Turkey and the GCC Sunni Arab Gulf States alliance led by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE on one side …
Versus Russia and their allies, the so-called “Shia Crescent” of Iran, Iraq, Syria and Hezbollah on the other.
(Of course Kurds, Christian Arabs, Turkmen, Yazidis, etc. are stuck in the middle as well.)
But so here’s the thing Senator:
The Obama-Hillary-GOP hawk consensus has us backing friends of al Qaeda, al Nusra and Arar al Sham in Syria right now — when these men are the veterans of al Zarqawi’s al Qaeda in Iraq and are sworn loyal to Ayman al Zawahiri, the Butcher of New York City.
President-elect Trump understands this as evidenced by his recent statements in the Wall St. Journal.
Of course we should not switch sides and back the Russian-Shia alliance, but maybe now is the time to just knock it off altogether. America does not need to be the “dominant” political force in the Middle East. Only bad Democrat economics says so. Real capitalist economists like David Stockman can explain why the oil will always be available no matter what.
President Harding brought a “return to normalcy.” President Eisenhower ended the war in Korea. President Nixon ended the war in Vietnam, went to Peking and shook hands with Mao Tse Tung. Ronald Reagan and Bush Sr. signed major nuclear arms agreements and ended the Cold War even before the USSR fell apart.
If you will please ignore the hawks, you, Donald Trump and his conservative America First Cabinet could end the Middle East wars and Make America Great Again.
Thank you.
